Protecting the environment is important to Lowery and that’s why we work hard to meet our ethical and legal obligations under the Resource Management Act.
Concrete slurry is harmful to water environments and causes alkaline burns and death to plants and animals and therefore cannot be allowed to enter a natural waterway, sewer or stormwater. To help deal with this, Lowery operates a full environmental service to collect, treat and dispose of concrete slurry.
We approach all our jobs with an environmentally-aware attitude and make sure that we are doing our part as a matter of course.
For instance, one of the questions we ask is if the noise created by our work is likely to disturb others in the area. We also check with you if there are any services (electricity, water, gas, telecommunications) in the concrete we are working on.
To reinforce and formalise that commitment to the environment, Lowery has undertaken the Enviro-Smart programme, which focuses on improving environmental performance and resource efficiency. In 2006 we reached Platinum level Enviro-Smart, an achievement that was acknowledged by the Rt Hon Helen Clark (then the prime minister) and North Shore City Mayor George Wood.
